Unveiling the Majesty of Thuluth: Episode 1  The Allure of Thuluth

Welcome, UAC Calligraphers!

This blog series is dedicated to exploring the captivating world of Thuluth script. Often described as bold, elegant, and historically significant, Thuluth is a rewarding script to master, offering a unique aesthetic that sets it apart from other Arabic calligraphy styles.

A Journey Through Time:

Thuluth's story begins in the 10th century CE. It emerged as a more decorative and monumental variation of the earlier Kufic script. Unlike the angular forms of Kufic, Thuluth embraced curves and elongated letters, creating a visually striking style.

Thuluth in the Grand Scheme:

Throughout history, Thuluth has adorned the walls of magnificent mosques, graced the pages of holy Qur'anic manuscripts, and added grandeur to official documents. Its presence commanded attention and embodied the beauty and power of Islamic art and calligraphy.

The Enthralling Elements:

What makes Thuluth so captivating?

Let's break down some of its key characteristics:

Elongated Forms: Letters in Thuluth tend to be stretched vertically, creating a sense of monumentality and dynamism.

Graceful Curves: Thuluth features pronounced curves that add elegance and flow to the script.

Dynamic Strokes: The strokes in Thuluth are bold and expressive, conveying a sense of energy and movement.
