Letter Daad

Note on Letter Daad

The writing structure of the letter Daad in Thuluth calligraphy is identical to the letter Saad in terms of stroke order, stroke angles, measurements, and proportions.

Both letters are constructed using the same five foundational strokes, following the same pen angles and nuqta-based dimensions. The only difference between them is the addition of the dot above the letter in Daad.

For this reason, mastering the letter Saad automatically prepares you to write Daad correctly. When practicing Daad, you should refer back to the Saad lesson 7 and carefully review its stroke sequence and construction before starting.

First write the complete form of Saad, then add the dot with proper placement and proportion to form Daad.

This method helps maintain consistency, accuracy, and visual balance between the two letters, which is essential in classical Thuluth calligraphy.

This lesson introduces the heavier form of Daad and its proportions. Students will practice stroke weight and letter balance.
